Sheriff volunteer groups help save lives

Local search and rescue volunteers will be among other groups to receive appreciation this Sunday at an annual barbecue event.

Imperial County Sheriff’s Office will recognize and raise support for several volunteer groups that assist them in law enforcement activities.

The I.C.S.O 27 th Annual Volunteer Services B.B.Q. will be held the Imperial County Expo – Casa de Manana Building from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festivities include food, music and games. The fundraiser will help to continue the services of these volunteer groups.

I.C.S.O. Undersheriff Fred Miramontes said the six volunteer groups help save lives through community education and actual search and rescue operations countywide.

“They’re very essential to our operation, because they help support some aspects of search and rescue. For example, the Posse, the De Anza, the Air Squadron. The Reserves and the Explorers are more groups of services to the community and they provide programming to some of the kids in the rural county areas,” Miramontes said.

The Sheriff’s Activities League is another volunteer group to be recognized. There’s a $10.00 donation for the fundraiser.
