Woman dies after being involved in hit-and-run crash, family say
UPDATE
The family of 54-year-old Antonia Wood has confirmed that she has died after being involved in a hit-and-run in the Foothills area Wednesday night.
ORIGINAL STORY
Fifty-four-year-old Antonia Wood, a Yuma resident, has been identified as the victim who was struck by a white Ford pickup on Wednesday, according to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
YCSO said the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. when Wood’s was walking westbound on the north edge of 44th street in the Foothills and was struck by the vehicle who was also traveling westbound.
“Normally, they do a lot of walking. They usually walk their dogs but this time they walked down the street less than about a block out from our house,” described a family member.
The driver of the pickup then continued west on 44th Street without stopping.
Wood’s family is now looking for justice.
“I just wish it wouldn’t have happened. I wish this guy would turn himself in because of a hit and run. We don’t know who, what, where. We know where, but we don’t know who and what,” said a family member.
When officers arrived to the scene Wood’s was taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center and later transported her to a Phoenix-area hospital.
Family members of Wood’s said she was in the Yuma-area because her Las Vegas home burned down. She was in the process of getting the home back.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation, and it is unknown if alcohol is a factor.
