Community Crime Map shows the safety of your neighborhood

If you thought your neighborhood was safe, you might want to double check the Community Crime Map to keep track of what goes on outside your home.

The Yuma Police Department and Lexis Nexis Risk Solutions partnered up to provide an inside look to crime data and alerts. From aggravated assaults, home burglaries, and car thefts, the map allows you to see the numbers, days, and times when crime usually happens.

13 On Your Side went to ‘Ask Yuma’ how safe residents think their neighborhood is so far in 2018.

‘I guess we need more of a neighborhood watch or something,’ said Natalie, a Yuma resident who thought her neighborhood near Arizona Avenue was safe. ‘Some people are home during the day, but some work and I’m sure they don’t have a clue in what’s going on-I just find it unbelievable.”

Another Yuma resident adds her family moved to Yuma because of their ‘safe reputation’ in the past.

‘I’m shocked because Yuma was a high peaceful secured location.’

For Issac who was born and raised in Yuma, he said he was unaware of how much crime has increased over time.

‘It is a lot, and for being in Yuma-I’m very surprised.”

YPD said users will only be able to see the City of Yuma and not areas in Somerton and San Luis. The map is free to use with residents able to submit tips, receive updates, and browse through criminal activity in your area.
