City urges residents to be on the look out for unofficial door hanger notices
Recently, unofficial city door hangers have caused the Yuma Police Department to be on the lookout for solicitors.
The City has received two reports of solicitor attempts to contact residents using documents that appear to be official.
The solicitors are part of a private organization not with the city.
Citizens who have gotten the documents on their door have made an effort to contact specialists with the City.
The false door hangers have been reported to come in two different formats.
One form appears to be a notice from a service utility written both in English and Spanish.
The top of the form is written in large type and capital letters reading “Water Info”.
There is a blank space to handwrite a date that says “We were here on…” followed by “please call us ASAP between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There is a listed phone number starting with a local area code and a graphic of a water drop.
The second notice has been reported as being hung on a door knob with a test tube and instructions on how to collect a water sample.
The City has attempted to call the number listed however has only gotten their voicemail.
Any vendor that is reaching out to residents must have a city business license.
The solicitor is issued an ID badge when they receive their license and they must present it to the resident if asked.
If you would like to report an unofficial door hanger received at a residence, you can call the YPD non-emergency line at 928-783-4421.
