Arizona Winter League strikes out
The Arizona Winter League, a Yuma-based showcase league, has officially closed its doors ahead of 2019.
The Arizona Winter League (AWL) will no longer host their annual showcase baseball league in Yuma. The California Winter League will now acquire assets from the AWL.
Last month, representatives from the AWL reached out to the California Winter League as both leagues came to an agreement that allowed AWL ownership to move forward with other opportunities. The CWL then agreed to take baseball equipment and other assets from the AWL.
The AWL is known to be a showcase league for free agent baseball players interested in becoming professional players or advancing on their careers. Their first season began in 2007 where the league began to play in Palm Springs Stadium.
In 2015, the AWL returned to the backfields at the Desert Sun Stadium for its 2015 through 2018 seasons.
“For our organization, we are keeping our focus in operating here in Palm Spring California with our Winter League,” shared President of the California Winter League, Andrew Starke.
The league looks forward to accommodating graduated college players who are looking to sign their first professional contract as well as players with professional experience who are aiming to advance their professional careers.
This past winter about 75 free agent players showcased at the Arizona Winter League.
CWL will operate from February 4 through March 4 with games taking place at Palm Springs Stadium.
