The day in the life of a public school teacher in the state of Arizona

The Yuma Education Advocacy Council, along with Expect More Arizona and Tucson Values Teachers, will present a public screening of the new documentary short film, Teaching in Arizona.

The film explores the challenges faced by teachers and the opportunities to improve the profession and supporting educators. The film brings to life the issue of teacher recruitment and retention by telling the personal stories of three teachers in public schools in Arizona.

The Yuma Council added that they have felt the impact of the state’s teacher recruitment and retention crisis in Yuma. Yuma has a unique factor that impacts the recruitment and retention issues- geography, language learners, rural areas, and a border state where teachers make nearly $20K more a year.

The film is also a way to raise more awareness and explore how the issues impact Yuma and how the community is responding.
