Agents arrest 275 undocumented immigrants in a 48-hour period

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 275 undocumented immigrants between Monday and Tuesday after illegally crossing from Mexico, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said agents 275 of them were foreign nationals and 262 were from countries other than Mexico.

Most of them were from eight different countries, Guatemala being the majority. CBP said 209 of them were family units and 26 were unaccompanied children.

Twenty of the individuals had to be transported to the hospital to be treated for a range of conditions including: back and ankle injuries from being dropped off the border wall, lacerations, lice infestation and impetigo, which is a highly contagious skin infection that mainly affects infants and children.

Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Porvaznik stated, “This daily crisis is taking manpower and resources from our border security mission and compelling us to redistribute them to a humanitarian mission.”
