Agents arrest sex offender with pending charge

A 33-year-old man with pending charges for failing to register as a sex offender was arrested on Monday, according to El Centro Sector Border Patrol.

The man was arrested near Ocotillo after illegally entering the United States and r ecord checks revealed that the man was convicted as a juvenile in 2003 for Criminal Sexual Conduct-First Degree Penetration acts with a child.

He received one year in prison and a fine.

El Centro BP said the man’s pending charge is for failing to register as a predator offender in 2009 and that he was previously removed from the United States in 2015.

“I am proud of the great work Border Patrol agents demonstrated in stopping this previously deported convicted sex offender,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “Their actions have kept our communities safe.”

The man is being held pending further criminal prosecution.
