Phoenix Police recommend murder charge against victim’s ex

Police are recommending a first-degree murder charge against the ex-boyfriend of a 19-year-old Phoenix woman whose body was found in Buckeye last week.

They say 23-year-old Jon Christopher Clark remains in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated felony charges.

Phoenix police say based on probable cause, Clark should be charged by county prosecutors with one count each of first-degree murder, improper removal of a body and evidence tampering.

Kiera Bergman was last seen alive at her Phoenix home on Aug. 4. Her body was found Sept. 3 near State Route 85.

Authorities haven’t said yet how Bergman died.

Clark was questioned last month about her disappearance when police found other people’s identification in his vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated identity theft and forgery.
