Mexican actress visits Yuma to learn about local educator’s fight against cancer
Yuma local, Lidia Gonzalez, is a retired kindergarten teacher for the Gadsden Elementary School District. She has served the community as an educator for about eight years. Recently, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2017.
After receiving the devastating news, Gonzalez began chemotherapy in Phoenix on December 1, 2017, and has come a long way since then.
When Gonzalez was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, she said doctors told her she had six months to live. Through treatment, she is way past nine months. With this progress, she is very happy with the results.
Gonzalez is now sharing her testimony with the rest of the world on Friday’s Stand Up To Cancer, a fundraising telethon. You can catch Gonzalez exclusive interview with Mexican actress, Karla Souza on NBC, ABC 5, FOX 9, and CBS 13 at 7 p.m.
Souza visited Yuma, Ariz. for this exclusive interview to take a glimpse of the Yuma local’s journey and fight to beat cancer. Souza’s father also died of cancer and she now advocates for cancer research.
The organization’s mission is to invest in cancer research and make every cancer patient a survivor.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the average lifetime risk for women is one in 65 and for men, it is about one in 63.
