117 pounds of liquid meth seized from inside vehicle’s fuel tank
A 39-year-old woman was arrested after officers seized 117 pounds of liquid methamphetamine inside the fuel tank of her vehicle on Monday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP said an officer encountered the woman after she entered the Calexico West port of entry and detected inconsistencies with her itinerary.
The woman and the vehicle were referred for a more in-depth examination and CBP said they used the port’s imaging system and narcotics detector dog to conduct a more intensive inspection.
During inspection they discovered 117 pounds of liquid methamphetamine inside the fuel tank that estimated a street value of $292,500.
CBP seized the vehicle and narcotics.
“The seizure of dangerous narcotics plays an important part in keeping our borders secure,” said Area Port Director David Salazar. “CBP officers continue to deter large amounts of narcotics from entering the United States and our communities.”
The woman was arrested for alleged narcotics smuggling attempt and officers turned her over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations agents for processing, according to CBP.
Later, CBP said the woman was transported to the Imperial County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
