California Market recognized for their 50 year legacy

California Market celebrated it’s 50th anniversary this week.

For the past half century, California Market has been a staple in the Imperial Valley. Located in downtown Calexico, they’re one of the few businesses that continue to flourish.

Thursday the store was recognized for the legacy it’s carved in the county. “T oday we’re able to celebrate what is a lifelong commitment to this community on behalf of the Loo family here in Calexico,” said Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia.

Garcia said small businesses like California Market are the driving force of our economy. “Small businesses out there, family own businesses that really sacrifice and dedicate themselves to not only sustaining their own families but also providing a good quality service to the people of Imperial County,” said Garcia.

The president of California Market, Adalberto Loo, said one of the reasons why they’ve stayed in business for so long is their relationship with their customers.
“They know how hard we work. Six in the morning till eight at night you know depends on the store,” said Loo.

One county official says their dedication to the valley has made lasting impressions on residents. “They’re stayers. They didn’t just come and go. They’re local. They stayed local. They invested, they expanded and the commitment’s there and it shows,” said John Renison, Imperial County district supervisor.
