Two convicted criminals arrested near Calexico Port of Entry
A sex offender and a man convicted of voluntary manslaughter were arrested by Border Patrol agents near the Calexico Port of Entry Thursday.
CBP officials said the first incident happened at around 4:45 p.m. when agents found a man about a mile west of the Calexico Port of Entry. Agents determined the man is a Mexican citizen who did not have proper documents to enter or remain in the United States.
After he was transported to the El Centro Station, a record check revealed he was 34-year-old Fabian Gonzalez-Ramos. Gonzalez was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Riverside on March 15, 2013, and was sentenced to four years in prison. Gonzalez was ordered to be removed from the country on Dec. 15, 2017, and was also on supervised release for misuse of visas and permits until April 2019.
The second incident happened shortly after midnight when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered a man just east of the Calexico Port of Entry.
Agents took the man to the El Centro Station where a record check revealed his identity as Daniel Rodriguez-Castellanos. Rodriguez, a 40-year-old Mexican citizen, was convicted on May 24, 2000, in California, for sex with a minor. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 36 months of probation.
Gonzalez and Rodriguez will be held pending criminal prosecution.
“Those with troubling criminal histories like manslaughter and sexually abusing children should think twice before trying to enter our country here,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “We will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”
