Motorhome goes up in flames

A motorhome went up in flames at the south end of Myrtle Avenue Thursday morning, firefighters said.

The Yuma Fire Department said they received reports of a recreational vehicle fire in the 1100 block of South Myrtle Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. Personnel arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a motorhome. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread to any surrounding structures.

Fire officials said the closest fire hydrant was over a city block away on 11th Street leading firefighters to lay several hundred feet of water supply line to the hydrant to control the fire.

The motorhome’s sole resident was not home at the time of the fire and authorities said the fire originated inside the home.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The RV and its contents suffered heavy damage.

No injuries were reported.
