Fire crews extinguish motorhome fires
UPDATE
The Rural Metro Fire Department has extinguished a fire that consumed two motorhomes that was reported at 4:10 p.m. on Avenue C and 8th Street Tuesday.
Rural Metro Fire officials said they received a call of a possible trailer home fire at 4:10 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found two motorhomes that caught on fire. Authorities said one individual was attempting to start one of the motorhomes using an unsafe method, causing the motorhome to catch on fire as well as the motorhome beside it. According to rural metro, the man tried to start his motorhome by pouring gasoline in the carburetor. Charly McMurdie with Rural Metro explains unsafe techniques she has seen people use in the past.
“People using tools instead of ignition switches. Under the hood we’ve seen them use, W-D 40 or gasoline in the carburetor to start a vehicle. That might be okay if you are qualified to do that, but if you’re not qualified we recommend that if your vehicle doesn’t start, you should take it to a mechanic to fix it for you, ” said Charly McMurdie of Rural Metro.
No injuries were reported and fire officials said no one was transported from the scene. Fire officials confirmed the fire has been put out.
