CBP officers seize fentanyl, heroin, and meth worth almost $230,000
Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis confiscated fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine worth nearly $230,000 in separate events over the weekend.
According to a press release, the first event took place on Saturday, August 25. Officers directed a 29-year-old Yuma woman for further inspection as she attempted to enter the United States through the pedestrian lane. A CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the woman leading o fficers to transport her to a local medical facility. Medical staff removed a package containing almost 58 grams of fentanyl hidden inside her body cavity.
The second incident happened a few hours later when officers sent a 55-year-old man driving a Ford sedan for a secondary inspection. A canine team led to the discovery of heroin, meth, and fentanyl that had a combined weight of over 40 pounds.
The third event happened on Sunday. Officers caught a 31-year-old woman attempting to smuggle drugs through the pedestrian lane. After she was sent to secondary inspection, officers found more than half a pound of meth in her personal belongings.
CBP seized the drugs, vehicle, and all three individuals were arrested. They were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
