Services set to honor John McCain
Several services and ceremonies to honor the life of U.S. Senator John McCain will begin Wednesday in Phoenix.
McCain passed away Saturday in his ranch near Sedona after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma, since 2017. This Wednesday would have marked McCain’s 82nd birthday.
In the next five days, McCain’s body will go from the Arizona Capitol to Washington, D.C., until he arrives at the U.S. Naval academy where he will be put to rest.
Wednesday McCain will be at the Arizona Capitol. McCain’s body will be in the state for 24 hours at the old Arizona State Capitol building, according to 12News.
A private ceremony will happen at 10 a.m. Wednesday inside the rotunda. The public can pay their respects at the rotunda from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursday there will be a service at North Phoenix Baptist church around 9:15 a.m.
The doors of the church will open at 8:15 a.m. and guests must be in their seats by 9:30 a.m.
The memorial service begins at 10 a.m.
There are limited tickets available to the public for the service. You can request up to two tickets: Tickets to service. Attendees will be notified through e-mail about their status.
After the service, McCain will leave Arizona from Goldwater Air National Guard Base at Phoenix Sky Harbor around 12:30 p.m. The plane is scheduled to land at John Base Andrews in Maryland around 7:30 p.m. eastern time.
Friday McCain is set to lie at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Only a few have received the honor to lie in the Capitol Rotunda, McCain becomes the 31st person to get that honor.
A ceremony will take place around 10 a.m. ET honoring his life and the public will be able to pay their respects throughout the day.
Saturday, the final service will take place at National Cathedral. The service will be held for McCain at the Washington National Cathedral in D.C., on Saturday. Service is set to start at 10 a.m.
Sunday, McCain is expected to be buried at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
