Senior Selfie Day in Yuma

Who says selfies are only a generational thing? Check out this group of senior citizens celebrating Senior Selfie Month by snapping pictures and raising money for a good cause.

On Friday at Desert Rose Retirement Community, 117 residents celebrated Desert Rose’s 22nd anniversary and Senior Selfie Month.

For every selfie taken Synergy HomeCare donated five dollars to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The array of purple, which is the color that represents Alzheimer’s Awareness was displayed throughout the room. Guests enjoyed a warm cooked meal and of course lots of pictures. One guest was even awarded a tiara.

“Well, it’s lovely that they did this because I’ve been the longest living resident in Desert Rose since 1997. That was six months after they opened,” Elsie Hilsinger said.

The photos were shared on Facebook and printed for the residents. This is the second year Desert Rose has celebrated Senior Selfie Month. Visit Desert Rose’s website for more information.
