Governor Ducey speaks about cross-border tunnel
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey visited the site of the cross-border drug tunnel early Friday. Governor Ducey praised the work of both federal and local law enforcement for stopping the transportation of drugs into the U.S. “We were able to stop this and keep them out of American schools and off the streets. But it is the reality of the border,” said Ducey.
Ducey claimed the amount of fentanyl found on Ivan Lopez, the suspect involved in the case, during his traffic stop was enough to kill millions.
Ducey addressed the opioid epidemic in Arizona during his State of the State address in January.
He thanked the Trump administration for their attention to the border and the Secretary of Homeland Security.
Homeland Security Investigations said they want to hold everyone involved in the operation responsible.
Ivan Lopez is the only suspect in custody at this time.
The governor also shed light on Senator John McCain’s announcement to stop cancer treatment. “John McCain is an American hero, from Vietnam and his service to our country to the United States Senate, to serving as the Republican nominee for President. This is a man who put the country before himself throughout his entire life,” said Ducey.
