CBP officers stop drug smuggle attempt in Calexico

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned at the Calexico Station intercepted a methamphetamine smuggle attempt at the Calexico Port of Entry.

CBP said it happened on Tuesday at 12:12 a.m when Calexico Stations Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) operators saw a man illegally cross into the United States. The system saw the man run north while trying to hide something underneath a satellite dish. The man dropped the items and ran back to Mexico.

Border Patrol agents found two clear plastic bags with a white crystalline like substance in the area.

Further testing found the substance had characteristics of methamphetamine, according to CBP officials.

The two bags of methamphetamine had a combined weight of two pounds worth an estimated $5,300.

CBP officials said this fiscal year, the El Centro Sector have seized more than 1,035.35 pounds of methamphetamine, amounting to over $2.4 million.
