IVC prepares students for career opportunities
Thanks to funds from a state initiative, the Imperial Valley College opened a new Career Services Center that aims to help students find job opportunities. The college’s career services center help students put resumes together as well as have them in a database where potential employers can hire them or offer them internships.
Second-year student Ivan Lopez hopes to take advantage of what the career center has to offer.
“I wanted to see the opportunities about the jobs. It’s pretty helpful for us students you know. They help you with applications and jobs,” said Lopez.
Lopez plans to graduate at the end of the semester and hopes to find a job in his home in the valley.
Lopez said, “I’m about to finish so, I’m looking for jobs and opportunities down here.”
Since it opened this week, over 150 students have already registered at the career services center.
Maricela Moreno, IVC Student Success Specialist said, “You know they’re very excited. This service was needed here on campus. We’ve had many comments saying that their glad that this is open to them. It’s this next step that they need for them to get the jobs.”
One official from IVC says he hopes that this will open the door for local employers to look at their students for potential hirings.
” We’re hoping to become the liaison for all employers in the Imperial County to look to IVC to look to our students. And look how well prepared they are. To be the focus and the liaison between employer needs and student needs,” said Efrain Silva, IVC Dean of Economic and Workforce Development.
