Suspect tied to Somerton shooting changes plea in Yuma courtroom

One of the suspects involved in an attempted murder that happened in July 2017 appeared in a Yuma courtroom Thursday.

Martin Guzman, 20, took a plea agreement in front of Judge Roger Nelson.

Guzman pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary stemming from an incident where he and another suspect, Anthony Serrano, are accused of allegedly shooting a victim in Somerton last summer.

Judge Nelson told Guzman the possibility of serving a minimum of two years and up to 8.75 years in prison, with 48 months of supervised probation.

Authorities said they found the victim while responding to a traffic incident.

Officers learned the passenger, who was on his way to Yuma Regional Medical Center, was shot moments before arriving to the scene.

Police arrested Guzman and Serrano on July 27 at a Somerton residence.

Guzman will be sentenced in September.
