Construction on Araby Road causes drop in customers for local businesses

Since July 2017, construction on Araby road has brought an increase of inconveniences for businesses and drivers.

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration began construction on State Route 195 with the need to improve safety and decrease traffic congestion.

This $8.1 million project was funded by the FHWA Highway Safety Improvement Program.

Crews have been constructing two, two-lane roundabouts and ramps to I-8 as well as adding concrete barriers, lighting, and landscaping.

According to ADOT’s website, the construction is expected to be finished come fall 2018 in order to “minimize the impact on Yuma’s winter visitors .”

Local businesses such as RV World have seen a drastic change in business due to the construction.

In addition, many Yumans find that their commute has been extended.
