4 arrested after allegedly leading CBP on chase

Four people are in federal custody Monday after they were suspected of leading Border Patrol agents on a 26-minute chase throughout Imperial Valley Sunday evening.

According to Border Patrol, the pursuit began just before midnight on Sunday. It happened just off of Dogwood Road and Highway 98, beginning in Ocotillo and ending outside of Calexico.

Agents had grown suspicious of a vehicle possibly being linked to human smuggling. Agents later arrested the driver, a U.S. citizen, and three Mexican nationals after using tire spikes to stop the vehicle.

Border Patrol said the incident remains under investigation.
