Two felons arrested by Border Patrol over the weekend

A previously deported aggravated felon and a man with a felony conviction for attempted murder were arrested over the weekend, according to El Centro Sector Border Patrol.

Fifty-year-old Carlos Avalos-Padilla was arrested after illegally trying to enter the United States at approximately 11 p.m. Friday night.

During processing agents became aware of his criminal history.

Avalos-Padilla has a conviction for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree t hat occurred in Riverside County in August of 2010.

He was sentenced to seven years for the conviction, according to BP.

On Sunday evening, agents arrested 37-year-old Ivan Partida-Valdez after he attempted to circumvent the Highway 111 checkpoint to avoid inspection.

Record check then revealed that Partida-Valdez has a criminal history dating back to 1994.

The convictions include aggravated burglary and three separate jail sentences.

Each prison sentence was at least one year long.

“Preventing these types of criminals from committing more heinous crimes in our community is part of our duties as agents, and we will continue protecting America’s frontline every day,” said El Centro Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.

Both men will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for violation of criminal law.
