One person dead following vehicle collision on I-8

Eastbound Interstate 8 was temporarily closed Sunday evening following a fatal single vehicle collision.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, 22-year-old Cody A. Taylor from Bisbee was driving a Honda westbound on I-8 just before Dateland, with an infant girl, according to the Department of Public Safety. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted into the median. Taylor tried to exit the median to get back onto the road but lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went back onto the median and rolled over, coming to a rest on eastbound I-8. Taylor was not wearing a safety restraint and was ejected from the vehicle. He passed away from his injuries.

Authorities said the baby was properly restrained in a child seat and survived. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
