Witnesses describe located cab

The missing taxi cab, in connection with the missing driver that was found dead on Tuesday, was located Monday evening.

One witness said the taxi was abandoned in broad daylight in an alley near 28th Street and Avenue A.

“I walked around it for just a little bit to see if somebody might have been inside of it and there wasn’t anyone. So I peeked into the passenger’s front door and I noticed that there was some towels and what appeared to be some dried blood or something like that, both on the towels and the console and upholstery on the front seats,” said Duane Ramsay, a resident.

Ramsay noticed the cab had a flat tire and a black leather bag was near it.

The witnesses’ discovery led police to the break in Guillermo Silva Sotelo’s murder.

Crazy 8’s Cab Company was also shocked to hear the vehicle Sotelo was driving was found.

“Being our close proximity to the Mexican border. Everyone just automatically assumed it’s in Mexico. It’s not that far. It’s a 15 to 20-minute drive. We figured it was gone that day,” said Mario Rodriguez, Crazy 8’s Cab Co. owner.

Somerton police had no comment on whether this was the evidence gathered at the scene, but police are analyzing the vehicle.

Sotelo, 55, was sent to pick up a customer at 2:30 a.m. on last Monday.

His body was found off the shoulder of Highway 95 on Tuesday evening.

“It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. It’s been a tough week since all this happened. Everyone is pretty down and on edge,” said Rodriguez.

The cab company said at least one of their drivers has been robbed since losing one of their own.

Police still have no reason to believe that Sotelo was anything but a family man at the wrong place and at the wrong time.

They ask if you have any information to call them at (928) 772-7300.
