One injured in officer-involved shooting in Yuma

UPDATE

Yuma police have identified Luis German Juarez, 23, as one of the suspects.

The graffiti that officers were investigating was gang type graffiti, according to Sergeant Lori Franklin with YPD.

ORIGINAL STORY

One person was injured during an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in Yuma.

Police said it happened around 10:26 p.m. in the area of 22nd Street and Madison Avenue.

Investigators said Yuma police officers checked the area for graffiti when two men shouted at them from across the street. The two men then opened fire on the officers, police said.

The officers returned fire and the suspects fled on foot before being located and taken into police custody.

One suspect, 17, was hit with a single gunshot wound that is considered non-life threatening. A second suspect is a 23-year-old man.

No police officers were injured in the shooting, according to Yuma Police.

This case is still under investigation.
