One dead after vehicle collision

One person is dead after being involved in a vehicle collision on State Route 111 in El Centro on Saturday at approximately 10:30 p.m.

California Highway Patrol said the crash happened after a pedestrian standing on the right shoulder southbound of SR-11 had an altercation with passengers in a silver Nissan Altima.

During the altercation, a second vehicle was also traveling southbound at about 65 mph and approached the Nissan Altima stopped at the shoulder.

The vehicle observed the Nissan and switched lanes to avoid driving close to it.

CHP said the pedestrian ran across both traffic lanes and was unable to stop or steer the second vehicle causing it to collide with the Nissan Altima.

The pedestrian died at the scene.
