Body found on Highway 95 identified as missing taxi driver

The family of Guillermo Silva Sotelo has released the following statement to News 11:
“The family of Guillermo is very thankful for all the love and support that all the community has shown towards us. We lost someone these days, that will always be remembered, and I hope that, who ever did this gets the punishment that he or she deserves someday. Guillermo leaves three daughters, step daughters, and grandchildren and a wife and will always be remembered.”

The body that was found on Highway 95 has been identified as the taxi driver that was reported missing early Monday morning, authorities said.
The Somerton Police Department said they received reports of a body in the area of Highway 95 at around 6:39 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive man lying a short distance off the roadway in the desert area and had suffered one gunshot wound. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motive of the shooting is currently unknown and police say they have not identified a suspect.
The individual was identified as Guillermo Sotelo, of San Luis, Mexico. Sotelo, who was a taxi driver for Crazy 8’s Taxi Company, was reported missing to the Yuma Police Department. Police said Sotelo was last believed to be heading to Somerton to pick up a passenger. Sotelo was driving a turquoise color, 2001 Honda, Odyssey with the Arizona license #BZT-8406 and had a “4 aces” logo on both front doors.
The vehicle has not been located.
Authorities believe there are individuals that may have information to help solve this case. They are asking for the public’s assistance to help identify the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting.

Editor’s Note: The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is currently assisting Somerton Police Department with an investigation of a body found on Highway 95 near Cocopah Casino Tuesday evening.
The Somerton Police Department said they arrived at the scene at 6:45 p.m. and found the body of a middle-aged man on the shoulder of Highway 95. The body appeared to have been out in the desert for some amount of time, police said.
Authorities said the cause of death is still unknown. Northbound lanes of Highway 95 will remain closed until 11 p.m.
