Yuma refugee ministry helps families seeking asylum

The Administration continues to put the issue of immigration under a microscope so a Yuma ministry hopes to educate the community through a forum.

The Yuma Refugee Ministry helps families who’ve been detained under the Yuma Sector transition after these families have been processed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

The ministry tells News 11’s Vanessa Dillon, they provide shelter, clothing, and food to families who have been granted humanitarian parole under ICE.

They were also given the opportunity to seek refuge if a family is eligible for sponsorship by a relative living in the United States.

According to ministry volunteers, families come in seven days a week and each stays a maximum of three days.

Connor Veneski, the Transition Coordinator at the Yuma Refugee Ministry said families commonly stay until their next court date.

Veneski said every sector has a refuge similar to the Yuma ministry, except the El Centro Sector.

Since the nation is facing a critical crossroads, the ministry is hosting an educational forum for the community.

The forum will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Yuma.

It will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the church is located at 505 S Avenue B, Yuma, AZ 85364.
