Medic First gives valley kids life saving skills
Medic First is hoping to save more lives in Imperial Valley by teaching kids the fundamentals of first aid training at their summer camp.
For three days at the First Aid For Kids Summer Camp, kids will learn how to treat burns, seizures and give CPR among other skills.
Nick Guzman, the training center director said teaching children how to save someone, can make a difference in their lives.
“So it’s highly important at a young age because there’s some history where you have a sibling save a brother’s life or a sister’s life, even their parents. So it’s really important at a young life to learn the basic skills of first aid,” said Guzman.
The Child Abuse Prevention Council who hosted the event after a last minute cancellation said they wanted to provide a safe and fun environment.
“Whatever was available to use for them, we wanted them to have that loving space, that was not governmental that was friendly. And they can easily have their child here and not worry about anything happening,” said Yvette Garcia, Executive Director of Child Abuse Prevention Council.
One parent who’s a first responder said he hopes this will inspire children to work in the medical field.
“I’m think to myself, how many of these kids will go into the profession of nursing or paramedics or helping others? That’s what I see. How many will go that route?,” said Alex Cardenas.
On the final day of the camp, the children will be able to demonstrate everything that they learn to family and friends. As well as saving a drowning mannequin.
