Impact Club of Yuma awards $6,000 to The Healing Journey

Estrella Fitch, the executive director of the Healing Journey, has been working tirelessly to help kids in the community for almost 10 years.

“It took a while for the community to know that I was even here or existed, but now I feel they are starting to learn about me,” Fitch said.

“People are not a number for us…it is a passion,” added Penny Fitch, a case manager at The Healing Journey.

The agency’s mission is to prevent abuse and support survivors, but it is their youth program that has grown over the years.

“I believe a total positive impact especially for our youth because 90% of the clients we have are ages 10-17,” added Fitch.

The Impact club took notice of their work as they awarded the agency $6,000 for sharing an inspiring story.

The Impact Club of Yuma is a club that donates thousands of dollars to local charities that help make a huge impact in the community.

“But I told them what I saw with my own eyes about a young man who never was told ‘I am proud of you’,” said Fitch.

There’s been a huge increase in kids walking through their doors over the years and this story of a young man reflects the work the agency does.

“He was aging out, turning 18 in the foster care system and we got him…he was broken and he did things he should not have done, but I got to witness the change, He works full-time now,” said Fitch.

Though the agency won an award for sharing this story, they said the real reward stands in being able to help kids stay out of trouble.
