Corn tortillas and soda linked to new meth intoxication wave

The number of patients has now gone up from 18 to 25, early Thursday morning. Health officials say that number will most likely continue to rise. )

Several people in San Luis, Mexico have been hospitalized after reportedly drinking soda and eating corn tortillas, this information according to the newspaper La Crónica.

So far 18 people have landed in the hospital or a local clinic tied to the incident since Wednesday morning.

The director of Municipal Public Health, Daniel de la Paz Walker, told the newspaper all patients shared the same symptoms.

At this time there are no deaths, and everything indicates that it is a case similar to those that have been reported in Mexicali in the last two years, also involving an involuntary consumption of methamphetamine.

The newspaper of La Crónica cites that the first cases that were reported were in a clinic on 26th Avenue and Nuevo Leon Street. A family arrived with dizziness, pain and nausea in a clinic on Guerrero Avenue in San Luis, Mexico and 34th Street.

The other patients who were hospitalized arrived at the General Hospital of San Luis Río Colorado by ambulance.

Currently, no action has been taken, because it is unknown if it was the corn tortillas or soda drinks that caused the symptoms.
