El Centro Border Patrol apprehends 28th sex offender in 2018
A previously deported sex offender was arrested by Border Patrol agents Thursday near Calexico, making him the 28th sex offender caught in the fiscal year 2018.
Shortly after 9 p.m., agents found a man who had illegally entered the country around five miles west of the port of entry.
Record checks showed that the man, identified as 43-year-old Maximo Flores-Lezaman, is a previously convicted sex offender.
Flores-Lezaman, a Mexican national, had a felony conviction from April 2002, in California, for Sex with a Minor. He was sentenced to one year in prison and three years probation after the 2002 felony conviction.
Border Patrol officials said Flores-Lezaman is the 28th sex offender arrested by the El Centro Sector in the fiscal year of 2018.
Flores-Lezaman will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for violation of criminal law.
