New teacher training program

Training for new teachers at Gadsen Elementary School District took place today and 36 newly hired teachers were in attendance to learn all about the basics of the classroom.

“We need to grow our own teachers in Yuma County. We have about a 50% rate of unqualified teachers currently Yuma County wide, so we are really working hard as ASU as a university, in training our teachers or students adequately to become those effective teachers within our community,” said Joena Ezroj, ASU site coordinator with the teachers college at AWC.

ASU is in partnership with the Gasden Elementary School District and as Joena said, it is their mission to get every teacher up to state standards before they enter the classroom, instead of them working while still trying to obtain their state credentials. For those returning teachers, 200 of them are expected to come out next week for their back-to-school training.
