Community invited to new election equipment open house

With the 2018 elections approaching, the Yuma County Elections Office is inviting the community to an open house where new election equipment will be showcased.

The new ballot equipment, ExpressVote system, will replace the previous voting system used since 2006.

The Yuma County Elections Office said voters in the community will notice little difference in the new voting system. They will still be able to vote using a touchscreen or paper ballots and cast them into a ballot counter.

Voters can use the touch screen to mark their vote selections and receive a verifiable paper vote record once they complete the process.

Another change coming to Yuma County is the use of electronic poll books. The KnowInk Poll Pad will replace paper rosters for voter sign-in and for Election Day Registrations. The new poll book will grant voters smoother check-ins and verifications and should also reduce wait times, officials said.

The open house will be held from August 1st through 10th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 197 S. Main Street.

For more information about the new voting system, please contact the Yuma County Elections Office at (928) 373-1014.
