District migrant program provides school supplies to students
Gadsden Elementary school District’s Migrant Program will be distributing uniforms and backpacks to all qualified migrant students from the Gadsden School District.
Throughout the month of July and August, Gadsden will open up the distribution to multiple elementary and junior high schools.
Every day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., dedicated volunteers will help pass out uniforms at the Ed Pastor Elementary school cafeteria located at 985 N. 6th Ave. in San Luis, Ariz.
For the last eight years, the Migrant Program has provided migrant families with various supplies and materials to prepare students for the upcoming school year.
Patricia Mendez a volunteer with the program said, “They have given us uniforms, school supplies for the kids, and classes. They pay for the college classes that are for advanced elementary school students.”
Over 1,200 students in the Gadsden District’s Migrant Program are expected to pick up their new uniform.
Since the 1960’s, the Migrant Program has been making a difference in the lives of numerous students and parents.
Luz Quiroz, a parent and volunteer for the migrant program said, “It has been a great benefit for us as parents when we help them.”
Several of these volunteers are parents whose children participated in the Migrant Program and want to see it continue to help other children.
“For me, the program has been very important because it has helped my children get ahead in life,” Quiroz said.
