Lip Sync Challenge highlights “Kids at Hope”

What started as a video challenge, turned into a message for hope.

For National Probation and Parole Supervision week, members from the Yuma County Juvenile Court took part in a popular social media lip-sync challenge against other law enforcement agencies. It was not only an opportunity to show creativity in the workplace but to share what they do for children in Yuma County.

“I believe the song ‘Lean on Me’ by Big Mountain captures what we’re all about,” said Probation Supervisor Henry ‘Beau’ Gonzales. “When kids, folks in the community, and when families need us, they know they can count on us, and lean on us.”

The undertone of the challenge was to highlight their nonprofit ‘Kids at Hope’, which they describe as a ‘mindset’ for stability and success for children.

“Our philosophy has changed in the last several years where we don’t look at the ‘risk’ in kids, we look for the hope in kids.” Tim D. Hardy is the Director of Yuma County Juvenile Court and said the nonprofit has had a great impact in the youth for the last four years. He added, “They need someone there for them, they need someone for them to ‘lean on’, and I think involving all the staff like Beau did, it just shows how we work as a team. That’s how we accomplish the most.”

The video has over 25,000 views on Facebook with a response from the reggae band Big Mountain, who expressed they would be interested in visiting Yuma County for a benefit concert in the future.
