Back to School Rodeo Preview
In tonight’s Making A Difference, we are talking about the “Back to School” Rodeo. An event that has gone on for many years now in Yuma is a great way for kids to get ready for the upcoming school year while getting free school supplies to start their year off right.
This free family friendly event is aimed at bringing resources from all over the Yuma area for families with children in pre-school through eighth grade. The event known to draw a crowd begins at 8am and in past years people show up around 7am to get a good spot in line. Vouchers will be given out and that is how your child can receive his or her own backpack that will include notepads, pencils, erasers and even re-usable water bottles.
” This is the seventh year that we’ve had this free family friendly event and I believe when it began it came from a council members recommendation to host an event that was free for families. To be able to have not just educational opportunities to really maximize on a child’s development in the Yuma area, but to also provide different resources for other aspects of life,” says City Spokesperson, Lucy Valencia.
Over 1,000 backpacks will be given out and that’s not all, entertainment will be provided and more than 88 vendors will be out to feed the crowd. Once again the event officially starts at 8am and last up until noon. The whole KYMA crew will be in attendance so we hope to see you there!
*Construction is going on till October on W. Desert Hills Dr. off of S. Ave A so expect heavier traffic and delays in that area.
