Vehicle crime holding steady in Yuma and drops in El Centro

In June, there were 41 reported stolen and burglarized vehicles in Yuma and 11 in El Centro.

Vehicle crimes hold steady in Yuma and mildly drop in El Centro.

“It’s not like they’re on a rise, but they’re not going down any either,” said Sargent Lori Franklin, Yuma Police Department.

That’s just in Yuma. There were 45 reported in May in Yuma and 14 in El Centro.

Yuma Police said the biggest mistake they see is that drivers are not locking their cars.

YPD also suggested securing all valuables.

“If you have a backpack, a briefcase, a purse, if you have that cell phone sitting there, change in your console, don’t leave it out there for somebody to see. If you have something you need to have with you put it in your trunk,” said Sgt. Franklin.

The amount of reported cases for July has yet to be seen.
