Battle of the Bands

Calling all bands, the Yuma Art Center has some exciting news for all you music fanatics. We went downtown today to get the scoop on this year’s music event.

The Yuma Art Center is hosting it’s first ever “Battle of the Bands” and the winning prize is 5,000 dollars. Bands from across the region will compete for Yuma’s vote. A panel of professional musicians, promoters, recruiters and community leaders will all partake in this event and if you are looking for exposure this may just be your big break. The rules are you must have someone in your band who plays an instrument. All band members must be 18 years or older and the band must have at least three bands members and no more than eight. Eugene Garcia with the Yuma Art Center explains why this is so important for our community.

“It’s significant because it’s gives an opportunity for local bands to be seen. Another venue for them to show off their talent with music and it’s good for our region, it’s good for our local Yumans just because it’s something new and different, something exciting. It’s live bands and we’re going to have seven bands performing on September 22nd and we’re really looking forward to it.”

The application deadline is July 20th and you must send them a five minute or less video of your band. Plus pay the application fee of $30 dollars. After that, August 1st is when the top seven bands will be announced and on Saturday, September 22nd they will all perform on center stage. Could your band be the next $5,000 dollar winner?
