Yuma humane society waives boarding fee for pets lost on 4th of July

The 4th of July can be an exciting holiday with food, family, and fireworks. However, being away from your pet during fireworks can be frightening for them.

Between July 3rd and 6th, the Yuma Humane Society was at its full capacity, housing 152 animals as opposed to the 111 animals housed last year.

Over the past week, these animals have been brought to the humane society by community members and animal control.

The humane society is an open admissions shelter which means that when numbers reach capacity, tough decisions have to be made for these animals.

The shelter has been posting pet identification photos on their website and social media in hopes to reunite pets with owners.

Pet information cannot be given over the phone, so the humane society urges owners to bring as much identification as possible including photos, vaccination records or proof of licensing.

In order to encourage owners to retrieve their pet as soon as possible, boarding fees will be waived up until July 8th.
