Victim’s husband shares loss in motel shooting

Josh Patton is sharing his thoughts after his wife was killed in a shooting at a Super 8 Motel parking lot.

According to Yuma Police Department, officers responded to shots fired in the area of the 1600 block of Riley Avenue after 5 a.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived they found 28-year-old Pearla Patton with a single gunshot wound with a motel employee at her side. Police took 37-year-old Steven Brown into custody, where he is facing multiple charges including premeditated first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with a million dollar bond.

“She [Pearla] said she was going to visit her mother in San Luis with my son out there. I’m assuming… because she really never went to Yuma before when we were together”

Josh is married to Pearla with two children and says he doesn’t know Brown or the relationship he has with Pearla.

“W hen I heard she was in Yuma I was like what the heck?” He continued, “That part of Yuma is no good, it’s all drugs and everything over there. When I heard where it was at, I was like-wow. I hope it’s not that.”

The case is still under investigation. If you have any information you are urged to contact Yuma Police Department or you can remain anonymous by dialing 78-Crime.

We reached out to Steven Brown’s family and are waiting for a response in regards to this case. He will be seen in court on Tuesday, July 3rd.
