One woman killed near motel parking lot

One woman is dead after a shooting in a Yuma motel parking lot early Saturday morning.

According to Yuma Police Department, they responded to shots fired in the 1600 block of Riley Avenue at approximately 5:01 am. When they arrived they found one woman with a single gunshot wound in a parking lot near Super 8 Motel. She was later transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and was pronounced deceased.

Police have taken 37-year-old Steven Brown into custody and he was booked on multiple charges, including first degree murder.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.The case is still under investigation.
