Man who attacked officers and fled with gun now in custody

The man who attacked two officers and fled with a gun was arrested Thursday near the area of Dome Valley, police said.

The Yuma Police Department said 41-year-old Ralph Sivyer attempting to avoid the I-8 checkpoint before Telegraph Pass. Agents followed Sivyer who then pulled off the side of the road and exited the vehicle. He was located 100 yards off the road and taken into custody without incident.

Sivyer was booked and faces multiple charges that include aggravated assault on a police officer, theft on property, and resisting arrest.

He is expected to be in court Friday.

Authorities were searching for Sivyer since June 1st after he attacked two police officers and stole an officer’s gun.

Police attempted to apprehend Sivyer, who was wanted on several felony charges from previous cases.

Sivyer ran to his car, a black 1999 Nissan Maxima, to get away from officers. Officers tried to remove Sivyer from his vehicle but were injured during the altercation.

Sivyer left the scene with one of the officer’s weapons, a nine- millimeter M&P handgun, according to YPD.

Sivyer is a prohibited possessor, police said.
