Expelled lawmaker Don Shooter speaks at Tea Party event in Yuma
KYMA News 11 has received calls questioning what exactly happened at a Tea Party event former Representative Don Shooter spoke at Thursday night. In our 10 p.m. newscast we made mention to that fact that someone there attending the event “flashed” their weapon.
We now want to clarify exactly what happened so that there is no confusion. Our photographer who is well versed in law enforcement practices and gun etiquette says a man walked up to him with an unlatched holster, and had his hand on his right hip, making it clear he was armed – and told him the media was not welcome.
At no point did our photographer feel threatened, he rather perceived the incident as rude.
We apologize for any confusion and given our time constraints on air, simply said the man flashed the weapon.
News 11 has made countless attempts to interview Don Shooter on camera as he is now a candidate for the Arizona State Senate. This was yet another attempt to speak with him on camera. We have yet to speak to him on camera.
