Mohawk Elementary hosts Border Patrol boot camp

Mohawk Elementary School and the Roll Branch Library hosted an event that taught students more about a career option with Border Patrol.

With the boot camp reaching its second year, students were able to experience a taste of what it is like to be a Border Patrol agent.

Students were led in several physical exercises such as jumping jacks and push-ups. The Border Patrol also brought a dog from their K-9 unit to show students how the dogs work with their agent.

The event was open to students from ages one through 12 as well as to the community. Programs like these allow students to take a break from their scholastic learning during the summer session.

Over the last 25 years, Mohawk Elementary as well as the Roll Branch Library, have partnered up to provide programs and resources that would not normally be available.

“It’s good to start off as young as we can showing them that there are different options out there…we live in an agriculture area, especially this rural area, that it’s not just farming, that they the options to go beyond that,” said Lucy Shaw, library assistant for the Roll Branch Library.
