CBP says transportation check post reported by ACLU is false

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says a Facebook post involving an alleged transportation check is false.

On June 7, a woman alleged she rode a Greyhound bus from Bakersfield, Calif. to Las Vegas, Nev. when an agricultural checkpoint was made at the Nevada state line. The woman, Tiana Smalls, wrote a Facebook post regarding the alleged transportation check.

The American Civil Liberties Union then wrote an article regarding the woman’s post on June 13.

According to CBP, both El Centro and Yuma Sector Border patrol agents confirmed there was no Border Patrol operation conducted in the immediate area of the agriculture inspection station near Yermo, Calif.

CBP said fabricated postings propel false and unsubstantiated information about the mission of the U.S. Border Patrol, the law enforcement agency said.

“Stories like this that attempt to pit us against our community need to be fact-checked before they are printed as truth. The Yuma Sector Border Patrol will continue to perform our mission, day in and day out, ensuring the safety of our agents, citizens, and communities,” Yuma Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Carl Landrum said.

The agency added that such enforcement operations serve as a vital component of the agency’s national security efforts.
