Construction for new roundabout on Araby Road continues
Construction near I-8 and Araby Road to create a new roundabout will continue through the fall of 2018.
The Arizona Department of Transportation began construction on May 16 as the second phase of the $8 million improvement project funded by the Federal Highway Administration Highway Safety Improvement Program.
“It’s going to look like a little bit bigger than the first roundabout down the north side of Araby road. The purpose of this project is to improve traffic flow and safety,” said Stephanie Dyer, Community Relations Project manager at ADOT.
The traffic flow is based on projections for 2035.
The construction has led to the shut down of Gila Ridge road in the westbound direction until June 29. This is affecting businesses like R.V. World.
Their customers have reported to them that they have had to make a longer trip, but RV World thinks the mild effect on business will be worth it in the end.
“We’re pretty excited about the project actually because when it’s finished, it’s going to be great. I think it’s going to be a lot easier for people to get to our business and other businesses here on Gila Ridge Road,” said Greg Svalstad, RV World sales manager.
RV World also said that they have taken measures to ensure their customers know their business is still accessible.
Ultimately, the project will be replacing the two traffic lights that ADOT said were about 50 feet apart.
While construction is in effect, ADOT suggests the following:
